3 Golden Jamaicans

August 9th, 2012

We’re talking Golden Rum’s of course (what else did you think?) to celebrate a Golden summer for one particular very fast nation, Jamaica.

Jamaica has such a great history of producing fantastic rums that we didn’t really know where to start to pick a top three but here are our picks for golden rums worthy of gold medals:

Mezan XO

The only blended rum in Mezan’s exclusive range, blended with a mixture of rum’s produced from the Hampdon and Monymusk distilleries which have been aged for between 4 and 23 years before being re-casked in the final blend. A complex but very enjoyable rum which we think stands out from the Mezan line.

Mezan XO is available at the Whisky Exchange for £27.25

Plantation Jamaica Rum 2000

As to be expected, another stunning rum from the Plantation family, aged in used whisky and bourbon barrels before being transported to France for ageing in the warehouses of Cognac Ferrand, a must for any home rum collection.

Plantation Jamaica 2000 is available at the Whisky Exchange for £34.95

Appleton Estate 30 Year Old Rum

Although not the oldest rum in the Appleton Range (that honour goes to the special edition 50 year old) this is the most exclusive that we’ve tasted from Appleton. It’s a stunning rum and has to be tasted to be believed. Yes the price is high, but that should be no trouble for a certain double olympic champion.

Appleton Estate 30 Year Old is available at the Whisky Exchange for £499
